ABOUT
Infinite Discs, Infinite Discs is the world’s largest online retailer for disc golf equipment
The Venture. I wanted a project that was based on graphic design, so I visited my friends at Infinite Discs and asked for a task to work on.
The Challenge. Infinite was toying with the idea of creating a little sister company named Apex Disc Golf. It would sell discs manufactured by the well-known company Innova Disc Golf. The marketing point would be the graphic designs on the discs, which would be completely unique to Apex. The idea was light-minded, so they let me have the entire project to complete.

STAMP GUIDELINES
HOT-STAMP PROCESS. Artwork is debossed into a disc by a hot press machine. The machine embeds colorful foil into the plastic by a heated plate, which is engraved with the design. This manufacturing process sets limitations on the styles of artwork that can be produced.
Innova Disc Golf lets customers and companies order brand discs with custom artwork stamped on them. They have published illustration guidelines to insure bespoke orders are made with as little defects as possible. These instructions, shown below, served as the criteria for the graphic art I generated. https://www.innovadiscs.com/disc-golf-discs/custom/custom-hot-stamp-guide/
Innova Disc Golf. MAX SIZE 5.25” DIAMETER. ONLY BLACK AND WHITE. DON’T USE SOLID COVERAGE. LINE WEIGHT 1 PT - 18 PT. AVOID FILLING IN THE EXACT CENTER. LARGE FONTS WITH GOOD SPACING

Inspiration
Much disc golf art is centered around mythical creatures. I wanted to ride that trend, while at the same time taking it back to the grass roots. To do that, I chose to concentrate on North American animals. While I have been in the serenity of nature, these animals have existed beside me and emboldened my own journeys. Each creature has generations of lore behind it, and commands humanity’s reverence and respect. I wanted to convey their essence onto Apex Discs and add a little more to that history.

Prototyping
As always, I was not content generating a concept and leaving it be. I had to see what my design would look like on a physical sample. To do this, I used a laser printer to etch the vectors through tape and peeled back the negative to form a stencil. I then used metallic spray paint to mimic the foil applied on commercial discs.
